My response...

My focus Group

The main feel I got from my focus group was that they liked the imagery and felt as though the front cover was extremely professional and stood out. This was exactly what I wanted to create, I wanted my front cover to look professional and stand out.  They also said that the colour scheme worked really well and the layout worked well, I knew exactly how I wanted it and I am pleased with how it turned out and it made me happy that other people felt the same. In relation to my contents page they agreed with my survey results that the contents page is easy to navigate and contains everything that is necessary and because the numbers are big it helps to navigate them. I didn’t really make the numbers big for navigation I just did it because that is how I had seen it done in other magazines and liked the idea. They also understood how I wanted to portray my artist as being bold and edgy. In relation to improvements they also mentioned how it excludes men but that is really what I wanted to do as I wanted it to appeal to females. I was also pleased with the response I got about buying my magazine as both girls said they would by it, I completely understand why the boys wouldn’t have wanted to buy it as it wasn’t directly aimed at them. All of them rated it excellent which made me really happy and they also said it suited the genre and suggested different artists that would also feature in the magazine such as Rihanna and Nicki Minaj which are the sort of artist that I based my model on.

Response to audience feedback

Target Audience response – Front cover

Everyone asked said my magazine was extremely conventional due to the layout and picture and looked very professional. This is the exact look I wanted for it, I wanted it to look like something you would expect to see in an everyday shop so I was happy with this part of the feedback.
Most people actually said there isn’t much I could do to improve it but even still I am sure there is. This is my final copy of the front cover and there were a few little changes that had to be made before finishing it to this standard. I was told that just simply naming the magazine Junkie could be misinterpreted and perhaps I would be better calling it Music Junkie so, taking this advice on board I did exactly that and I must say I actually like it more because it fills a bit of a gap above the masthead. Also, rather than the pricing being on the top right of the barcode as it is now I did have in the middle of the top of the barcode but was told it looked a little odd placed like that so I moved it to where it is now and it looks a lot tidier.
Overall, I am pleased with how this turned out and the reception it achieved from its audience many said it was “faultless” and that I “should be extremely proud of this piece of work.

Target Audience Response – Contents

This is my finished contents page and I was a little disappointed with the way it turned out but surprisingly happy with the feedback it got. However, the version before this got the response that it was text heavy and very plain and I had to agree. The ratio of text to pictures was completely not right as there was the same amount of text but with only one image. Therefore I added another 3 images and was told that this made it look that little more interesting and will appeal to my target audience a lot better.
I was also told to add a drop shadow to my pictures as it looked odd without them and by adding them it defiantly completed the look. The positive feedback consisted of there being a good house style, the front cover clearly was related to the contents through the colours and images that have been used. Although people said my final copy was still a little wordy I have tried to cut back on that as much as I can but to have the perfect proportions etc. the text just has to sit the way it is.
Overall, I personally feel that my contents lets me down over when taking the rest of the magazine into consideration but I was very pleased to get so much positive feedback and contrastive criticism as now, after acting on the response, I feel a little better about the way it looks.

Target Audience Response – DPS

This is my final copy of my double page spread and although it is quite simple I am very pleased with it. After finishing it and getting others to look at it many of them picked up on spelling or grammar mistakes so I had to go through the piece and correct them all but now it is much more professional for not having them. One thing that was suggested to change was the normal bracket ( to a different bracket ] which actually made an awful lot of difference. In my first copy I had also forgotten to add a drop cap so when reminded I added it and it does look so much more professional for having it.
When I first did the by-line I had little pictures included but was advised to take them out as they looked messy so I did so and they were right. I was also told that I had used the space very well and placed the pull quote very well so it is eye catching the particular pull quote is also very attention grabbing. I’m glad this was picked up on as that is exactly why I chose it. I was also told that it looked very professional due to the fonts and the colours and again complied with the same style as my front cover and contents page did.
Overall, I was very happy with the feedback I received. Some said that it was a little too plain but I did opt for a more simplistic and stylish approach to this page.
