Masthead Comparison

The mastheads I chose to compare are extremely different to each other. “NOTION” is in capitals and looks almost as though someone is shouting it at you making a really bold statement as pop music tends to. The other contains very curvy letters again reflecting the sort of music as country music tends to be quite soft compared to some of the symphonised beats used in pop music. Another big different is the actually name. “NOTION” relates to the music but also has another meaning whereas “Country Music” is exactly what is says on the tin. “Country Music” has other things around the mast head such as the date and the price, “NOTION” has neither it simply just stands alone adding to the whole minimalistic approach the whole magazine takes. In relation to the background/aspirations of each magazine that is reflected in each masthead “NOTION” is a very similar font to “Vogue” suggesting they are aiming for a similar sort of audience and focus on mainstream music and issues, the other mast head has similar text to that found on acoustic guitars which is exactly why it was chosen, it is a popular font in Nashville – the pace where country music originates from.
